Phuc Tap

From News | by Michael Nguyen, Michael Nguyen

Press Release: Amerasian actress Eileen Fogarty, takes the stage with her one-woman show, It’s Phuc Tap! (which means complicated in Vietnamese).

This hilarious, yet bittersweet play opens at The Elephant Asylum Theater on Sunday, January 30th at 6pm. Subsequent performances will run every Sunday at 6pm until February 20th.

With infectious energy and disarming honesty, Fogarty tells the story of how she was raised by a distracted Irish-Catholic father and an eccentric Vietnamese mother, and how she uncovered a life-changing family secret.

Her emotionally-charged journey takes the audience to Singapore, Saigon, and even to the green pastures of Ireland, where we meet her 90-year old Grandpa. Expect to see a dozen original characters that will make you laugh out loud, including a racially-insensitive schoolteacher, a Filipino Casanova, and her dragon-lady Aunty Thuy.

The solo show is co-directed by Jean Collins and Christine Schoenwald. Jean Collins was resident director of the Off Stage Theater Company; Christine Schoenwald directed the critically-acclaimed "Movieland Murder and Mayhem Tour: Roosevelt Edition", and the popular " Skater Dater" at bang. Improv Theater.

Venue: Elephant Asylum Theater, 6320 Santa Monica Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90038 (between Vine and Cahuenga)
