Our Hearts Go Out To The Tsunami Victims
Dear friends and family,
The Tsunami death toll is nearing 146,000. As countless people are mourning for their friends and family, they are desperate for basic necessities like food and water that we often take for granted. They are now living in fear of death caused by overcrowded facilities that are unsanitary and potential breeding grounds for contagious diseases.
I hope you will help me brighten the lives of these people who are currently experiencing unimaginable suffering.
Consider putting aside just $5 of the Christmas money given to you by your generous relatives to provide an emergency health kit for one person for three months, with medical supplies and drugs to cover basic health needs.
This week, consider skipping dinner at a restaurant so you can provide a basic family water kit for ten households, with detergent, soap, wash basin, towels, bucket and water purification tablets. That is what $87 can do.
I am certain we will at least be able to provide one "School-in-a-Box" kit containing basic education supplies for 80 children during times of crisis. That will only cost all of us $188.
Among many other tasks, UNICEF is dispatching trained volunteers to the six provinces to provide children with food, clothing, and other basic relief items. A team of experts will counsel children in the local communities and temporary shelters. UNICEF will also keep working to ensure that all orphaned children are located, and if possible, reunited with relatives.
I want to help these children and their families. Since we cannot physically reach out to these victims in South Asia, I think the least we can do is to spare a few dollars. I am requesting a donation of at least $10 or any amount you prefer.
Please visit www.unicefusa.org/tsunami to donate. If you do, please let me know. I would love to hear about it.
Thank-you,
