Mission
The latest Census Bureau statistics indicate that the Vietnamese American community is one of the fastest growing communities in the United States. As the Vietnamese American community grows, inevitably the community is becoming increaingly diverse. The Vietnamese that immigrated to America possess a culture entirely different from the Vietnamese Americans born in the United States. The needs and issues of the Vietnamese American community are unique and constantly evolving - thus requiring a new apporach.
The second generation of Vietnamese Americans represent the first true mix of American and Vietnamese culture anywhere in the world. Their struggles with cultural identity, cultural isolation, and cross generation boundaries are unique.
Tieng Magazine's mission is to voice the issues of those who are caught between two cultures. We are dedicated to creating an accessible journal of Vietnamese American life. Our philosophy is that while we appreciate the heritage of Vietnamese culture, we do not need to restrict ourselves to the definitions of the Vietnamese American role. To be Vietnamese American is to be unique - we strive to be a resource for all Vietnamese Americans to find their own identity.
